SHITO-RYU

In 1948 Kenwa Mabuni combined the first character from each of his two (2) main Sensei 's names (Ankoh Itosu and Kanruo Higaonna)
Ito from Itosu (also pronounce "Shi") and Higa from Higaonna (also pronounced "To") to form "Shito" Ryu means school or method.
Shito-Ryu is the first style to combine two (2) styles Naha-te and Shuri-te. It also has the most extensive Kata syllabus of any "traditional" style.
